Summary

canine distemper

Canine distemper is a highly contagious and fatal infectious disease caused by canine distemper virus.  

 

Route of transmission: The main route of transmission is the digestive tract and respiratory tract.  The main source of infection is sick dogs and dogs with poison.  

 

Symptoms: early symptoms similar to a cold, followed by bronchitis, catarrhal pneumonia, gastroenteritis is characterized by spasms, convulsions.  

 

Treatment and prognosis: injection of canine distemper monoclonal antibody or hyperimmune serum as specific treatment combined with routine treatment.  Mortality is high, up to 80% in puppies.  

 

Prevention: Regular immunization.  In case of distemper, quickly isolate the dog and thoroughly disinfect the kennel and environment.  Contact between sick dogs and healthy dogs is strictly prohibited.
